Colonel Pyncheon wants to build a house on land that belongs to Matthew Maule. When Matthew Maule is executed for witchcraft, Pyncheon takes the land. He builds a house, which he calls the House of the Seven Gables. However, unexpected events occur and the House of the Seven Gables becomes a haunted house. The sins of the past follow the Pyncheon family for many decades; until the arrival of a young woman from the country brings cheer to cheerless lives in the family and to the rooms of the house. Will the curse of the family come to an end?
